My responce to Uncle Sam's Lone Star, "Ban Driving Instead!"

The post that Uncle Sam's Lone Star, wrote on the ban of texting was very well written, and very informative. I have to agree with the author when it comes to, why isn't Perry passing the ban on texting and driving? I admit, I have done it in the past, but I have stopped because I have two little ones in the car, and don't want to put their lives in danger. But, others are putting us in the same danger. A text can wait, it is not the important. Nothing is worth losing a persons life. I don't like having my life or my children's life in someone else hands while they look down to say "LOL." We as people should do what we can to make the ban happen, and enforce the laws, and make the punishment a ridiculous amount of money or community service or something so people will stop the texting and driving.

Should Hospitalsbe able to gather phycial evidence from rape victims?

I read the other day that the senate is trying to pass a bill to where hospitals to gather physical evidence from a rape victim. But the question is should they be allowed to or should they have a county forensic examiner?
There is a lot that goes into a rape kit, they have to collect collection of blood, urine, hair and other body secretion samples, photo documentation,c ollection of the victim’s clothing, especially undergarments, collection of any possible physical evidence that may have transferred onto the victim from the rape scene. A lot goes into, a specailly trained professional should be preforming the exam, not just anyone from the hospital. Just a regular staff member at the hosiptal preforms it they can contaminate the specimens, they can easily mess up because they don't know what they are doing.
If the state really wants to know who to get for the rapes, they should only let the forensic examiner preform the exam, not just any doctor at the hospital, who could possibly be in a hurry, and not caring how to preform the exam just to get it done.
The bill is also for them to budget money to go ahead and go back and look through other rapes that have been preformed, so those victims could have a clear state of mind, and know who their rapist is. And that person could be charged with rape. I like the idea of being able to go ahead and do that, but that is 11 million dollars to do that. They would be testing untested evidence. Why wasn't the evidence tested when the test was preformed? What was the point in waiting to preform it? I see where they are coming from, they want to know, but also the tests should have be tested when they were preformed and evidence was gathered.

My response to Politics within a Local Society, ' An eye for an eye."

This editorial has an amazing points, and gets to the point. It states accurately how the state of Texas is on the death penalty, and how it is a great thing. The death penalty is a good thing to have, and the way Texas does it, is amazing. People who commit crimes that hurt people in a sexual way, or they end up in death should be put to death. As they said, it will give the family of the victims a peace of mind, and feel like justice had been served. We have the fastest death penalty in the USA. As the comedian Ron White said, "I'm from Texas and in Texas we have the death penalty and we use it. That's right, if you come to Texas and kill somebody, we will kill you back. That's our policy. Right now there's a bill in the Texas legislature that would speed up the execution process of those convicted of a heinous crime with more than three credible witnesses. If more than three people saw you do what you did you don't sit on death row for 15 years Jack, you go straight to the front of the line. Other states are trying to abolish the death penalty. My state's putting in an express lane."
I am proud to be from a state where they punish people for the crimes they commit, and not just let them sit there in jail being able to do what they can't do outside the jail walls. Plus, why should our tax dollars go to feeding them food, watch television and all that like the author of this article originally said. Also, the news needs to stop giving the people who commit these horrible crimes, all the media attention they get. It makes them popular, and others see this and think, "hey if we do this, we will become famous and get a lot of attention." Every state should have the whole, "An eye for an eye" concept.

Is faster Really Better?

What is with the increase with speeds? It was recently reported that along 183 and SH 130, the frontage roads, the limits are going up by 5 miles per hour all the way to 15 miles per hour. Do we really need to be increasing the speed? Everyone is always in such a hurry that no one can enjoy anything anymore. Just because our cars can go a high speed limit doesn't mean that we need to go that fast. Just like the I-10 went up to 80-85 miles per hour. That doesn't even give you enough time to slow down. It is not necessary to go that fast at all. Injuries in an accident start at a car going at 10 miles per hour. Just because your are going faster, it doesn't mean it is better. People die all the time in vehicle accidents. I don't need to be hit by a car going fast on a frontage road, while I have two children in my car. We shouldn't need a speed increase. Fatal accidents happen as it is with the speed limits we currently have, it can only go up or the accidents get much worse with the faster speeds. People in Texas drive horribly as it is, they swerve in and out of lanes, don't come to a complete stop, they are reckless. Even if it is just a small increase, doesn't mean the drivers are going to be safer. They will just become a more reckless. Faster is not better at all. Our world is so fast paced that we just need to slow down to prevent people from getting seriously hurt.

The Government is taking all our Ammo

Lately, there has been a scare on the shortage of ammo, and how we are going to run out soon. When you go to Academy, or GT's you see signs posted everywhere that you have a monthly restriction or weekly restriction on the amount you are allowed to purchase. That is if you are even able to purchase the ammo with how fast it sells out. You have to be at Academy first thing in the morning to be able to get the ammo. Could this ammo shortage just be a hoax, set in our minds or is the government making it seem like something scary can possibly happen that we made need it.
TexasFred recently did a post called, The Truth About Government Ammo Purchases, he writes about how since Obama had come into office, he has sold more guns and ammo then your regular salesmen. And since he has been re-elected, there has been a shortage on ammo. But the only explanation is that it has to be because of the large amount that the government is buying. He says the FBI has bought over 1million bullets, and that averages out to be about 7,187 for each agent. Now that is a lot of bullet. But, also us Americans who are running out to go buy the bullets before they run out, is also causing the shortage.
The government could just be buying a large amount of ammo, just simply because they need to stock up. It doesn't mean that the end of the world is near.
People shouldn't slow down in my opinion when it comes to stocking up on ammo. If the government is doing it, then so should we. If they are preparing for something, we might as well too. We have the right to protect us in anyway we need to. The second amendment was created for us to be able to protect us from the government. And sometimes it looks like we will need to be able to do that. I disagree with TexasFred in the aspect that we should be in a little panic because of how fast ammo is selling. But we are Texas, we can handle our own, us as a state is so large, that could also be a reason we are running so low. Us Texans, we love our guns!!!!

A Change in Standardized Testing

The Austin American Statesman recently reported about standardized testing in Texas. It was called, Rest state's testing system. It is the first bill to pass in either chamber since the beginning of the year. The unpopular testing reform had it to where standardized testing was going to count as 15 end of the course exams that would count as 15%  of the students final grade. But, thank god it never took effect and now it never will.
"The House bill filed by Aycock, chairman of the House Public Education Committee, reduces the number of end-of-course tests required to graduate high school from 15 to five. The bill also, among other changes, ditches current school ratings based on test scores — exemplary, recognized, academically acceptable and academically unacceptable — for the familiar A to F letter grades."(Statesman. Editorial Board)

The legislation does propose for end the year exams to take place for 10th grade students. They will be taking reading, writing, history, algebra, and biology. Also, high school requires students to take 4 years of Algebra, Science, American History, and English, and they plan on changing it this coming session.

I agree with the state changing the standardized testing rules. There should not be a test that determines whether or not a student passes a grade and graduates. What if a student has excellent grades in their classes but has test anxiety when it comes to a huge test. It can break that student and make them fail a grade or lower their GPA to prevent them from going to their dream school. Students shouldn't be punished for the score that is received on a STARR test. Making students take more tests does not make the test scores better. High School students should be prepared for college and what to expect in the career world. Because outside of high school is not all exams.

Everyone has heard about the Sandy Hook shooting that happened in December.  Little kids lost their lives that day. But, since that incident happened more and more schools are talking about making it legal for teachers to have a concealed hand gun license to have it on them while they are at the school. Just for the likelihood that another shooting happens, the teachers can defend the students and take down the shooter.

KXAN reports that there is one lawmaker proposing a bill that will train teachers to also be armed marshals. A number of law enforcement are becoming more away and teachers are willing to do anything to protect the students at schools.

The director of the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training(ALERRT), Dan Montague, has had more people interested in doing what they can to be able to protect the faculty and students at schools.

"After incidents like Sandy Hook and Columbine, it heightens the awareness of all local law enforcement agencies to re-examine their training to specifically respond to an active shooter," said Montague.(KXAN)

The Protections of Children ACT, is at the top of the list of law makers. It will let teachers carry their guns volunteer to carry their guns on campus and be ready if a shooting was to ever happen again.

School shootings can happen anywhere at any time. Our teachers and faculty members should be ready if it were to happen again. Our children shouldn't be worried about going to school, and should feel safe there. I know I will feel safe with my child at school knowing that they are protected by the faculty having the ability to do so.
